Barbara Barnes Jones, 73, of Kinston, died Saturday, March 27, 2021, at her home. At her request, she will be cremated, and her children will be spreading her ashes at a later time. Barbara was born on December 28, 1947 in Kinston, NC to the late James Douglas (JD) Green and Ackrey Jones (AJ) Green. She was preceded in death by her two big sisters, Carolyn Faye Gillespie and Peggy Hardison; her brother, Harvey Tucker; and her husband, Jimmy Jones.
Mama, as she was affectionately called by her children and the multitudes of people she treated as her own, was a blessing to everyone she met. She loved all people, and she never met a stranger. Barbara was quick to give anyone a hug, whether they wanted it or not. Her laugh was joyful and infectious, and she managed a way to bring laughter into every situation. She enjoyed life, and most especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, her special friend, Ray Dail, and her fur-baby, Stonewall “Stoney” Jackson Dail. She also enjoyed spending time with her brother, Bill, whom she had just found in the past few years. Barbara also loved her many friends. One of her favorite things to do was to meet up with them at Lovick’s Café and laugh and carry on. She was truly an angel, and Heaven’s gain is our loss, but we know she is happy now, celebrating with her Daddy, Mama, Big Ma, sisters, and the rest of her family and friends that have gone before her.
Survivors include her children, BJ Koonce and husband Les of Kinston, Crae Harper of Winterville, and Kellie Jackson and husband Jeffery of Greenville; her grandchildren, Alaina Seachris of Goldsboro, Camryn Koonce of Greenville, and Colton Lunde of Ayden; her great-grandchild, Kinslee Flowers of Goldsboro; her brother, Bill Proctor of Greenville; and special friend, Ray Dail of the home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation in her memory to the American Legion, Chapter 43; the Vietnam Veterans Association, Chapter 892; or a charity of your choice.
