James Cogdell

Mr. James A. Cogdell, son of Roberta Cogdell Patrick and Thomas Sutton was born July 22, 1936 in New Bern NC. James was raised by his grandparents, Oscar and Suzanne Cogdell along with his uncles Joseph and William Cogdell.

ON August 24, 2009 after months of discontentment James decided to end his physical life on earth and join his Ma and Pa in their heavenly home.

He worked and retired from CF Motor Freight in 2001 with 30 years of dedicated service. After retirement James moved back home to Kinston NC where he worked part time with Swinson Funeral Service.

James leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife Maureern Garcia Cogdell, of the home, 3 children; Chevelle Cogdell-Odome, Jamaine Cogdell and Jerome Cogdell and son in law Darrin Odome.
His special grandson whom he raised as his own; Kyle "Da-Day" Cogdell and four grandchildren Bria, Jada, J'hanya Cogdell and Jaiden Odome.

Also to cherish his loving memory is his mother Roberta Patrick. Brothers Rudolph "June" Alphonzo and Gehard Patrick. Sisters Velma Cannon, Olivia Williams and Ollie Faye McNeill. Speical cousins, Anthony Cogdell, Jospeh Cogdell, Izola Cogdell, Regina Cogdell and Geraldine Rooks. James also leaves a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday September 1, 2009 11 AM from the St. John Free Will Baptist Church with Bishop Malcolm S. Johnson and Dr. Gerald Johnson officiating. Burial to follow in the Sandhill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Monday August 31, 2009 3 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
