Mrs. Poga Jane Gooding Wingate, daughter of the late Timothy and Katie Chadwick Gooding, was born September 26, 1935 in Lenoir County. She entered into eternal rest on September 8, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
Poga grew up in Lenoir County and graduated from Woodington High School in 1953. Upon completing high school, Poga united in Holy matrimony to the late John A. Wingate in August 1953 and shared 50 years of marriage. Four daughters and one son were born to this couple. Poga’s greatest joy was caring for her family whether it was making outfits for her children or preparing special family meals. Ms. Wingate later was employed with Kinston Shirt factory as well as Texfi and West Company Pharmaceuticals. Poga retired as a Supervisor from Tar Heel Home Health. Poga was a loving wife and nurturing mother. She joined and loved Koinonia Christian Center Church.
The memory of Poga Gooding-Wingate will be cherished and revered by her loved ones. Children Darnell Wingate(Bonita) of Kinston; Nedrick King (Phyllis) of Baltimore, MD; Jacqueline Wingate-Stanback of Greensboro, NC; Tnetter Wingate-Banthongsack; Debra Wingate-Lewis (Milton) and Pamela Wingate-Peoples all of Kinston, NC. One brother in law Ivan J. Davis of Kinston; Three sister in laws: Lorraine Gooding of Sabastian, FL; Mattie Wingate of Kinston; and Ruth Moultrie of Covington, GA. Fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins who were dear to her heart and a host of loving neighbors and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Wingate will be conducted on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM from the santuary of Koinonia Christian Church with Pastor Trey Evans serving as the eulogist. Commital Service & Burial rites will take place in the Pinelawn Memorial Park. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM from the Robert Swinson, Jr. Memorial Chapel.
Family & Friends are being received at the home of Mrs. Wingate, where they will also assemble in preparation for the funeral procession. (713 Fitzgerald Drive - Kinston, NC 28501)
