With heavy hearts, we, the Staff and Management of R. Swinson Funeral Services, along with the Jerkins and Smith Family, announce the transition of 94-year-old Mrs. Verna Jerkins Smith, better known to some as "Doodle" of 1609 NC Highway 41 E. Trenton, NC, on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, from the Andrew Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow the services in the Church Cemetery. A public visitation will be held Saturday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. from the Robert Swinson Jr. Memorial Chapel. 

Mrs. Verna is survived by one son-FitzRoy Jerkins, Sr. of Grifton, NC, one daughter-June Carol Jerkins of Trenton; three sisters- Shirley Dixon, Barbara Hargett of Trenton, and Essie Chadwick of Winterville, fourteen grand, twenty-nine great grand and thirty-two great, great grands and a host of other relatives and friends.
